My first experience when visiting Portland, Oregon was to take an adventure in to trying out a couple of different food trucks. Oregon has several places in their downtown area where they dedicate an entire block to food trucks. I can honestly say that I don’t think I have ever eaten from a food truck before?! Is it safe, is it sanitary, will it make me sick? Other than the occasional Ice Cream truck that will come through my neighborhood here in Missouri, I have never ventured to buy food out of a truck parked on the street.
Food trucks are really popular, I am just a very picky eater. So when deciding on which trucks to try I decided to give some Mexican tacos a try and then of course I went for dessert! The taco was a real mexican taco with a soft shell, shredded beef, cilantro, onions, and some yummy salsa. My tastebuds were very satisfied. Then I found a truck that had sweet waffles. There was nothing more great than the idea of a Belgian Chocolate waffle. It was a waffle topped with bittersweet chocolate ganache and whipped cream! There were so many i wanted to try so I guess that means I need to make another trip to Portland!
When doing my research I learned that Portland calls these “Food Carts” not food trucks. I guess they aren’t ALL technically trucks.
Food Trucks have DIFFERENT sets of regulations in Oregon. They have different classes depending on if the food is pre-packaged or whether or not the food is pre-cooked. You also have to apply to have a food cart and follow the Oregon Food Sanitation Rules.
